I.Getting Started
Go to http://us.ncsoft.com. If you have an Account already, click the "Log In" button in the top right of the screen and log in. If you do not have an Account, click the "Create Account" button in the top right of the screen. Select your language and click "Continue". Now enter your Account Name, E-mail Address, Password, Confirm your Password, and click "Continue". The enter your First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, Country of residence, Address, City you live in, State you live in, your Postalcode (Zipcode), then enter the Security Code in the rectangle box and click "Create My Account". Make sure to Un-Check the box if you do not want NCSoft to send you advertisements. Now go to your email, log in, click the verification link in the email NCSoft sent you, and verify your email address. Once you are verified and logged in, click the "My Account" button at the top center of the screen. Assuming you have purchased the game in some fashion and used a serial code, click "Game Accounts" to continue. If you have not purchased Aion, you can purchase Aion through the NCSoft Store. If you have not used a serial code, click "Use a Serial Code" and enter the code you received when you did purchase Aion. From the Game Accounts list, click Aion. In the new window, under the section in the top right called "Actions", click "Download PC Client". Click "Run" and then "Run" again to install the Client. Once the Client is installed, run it. From the list of games, select Aion and then click the "Install Game" button in the bottom left. This will begin patching and will take a few hours if you have not installed Aion yet. After this finishes, you are now ready to play Aion! Once Aion is installed, click the "Play Now" button in the bottom left. This will launch Aion and you should see this screen:
Now enter in your Account name and Password that you created for the NCSoft Website. If you do so correctly, you will be brought to the page to Accept NCSoft's User Agreement. Click "Yes" to continue to the Server Select screen. Choose your Server and then click the "Select Server" button at the bottom. You should now be at this screen:
Return to top Now it is time to create your first character. Click the "Create" button at the bottom of your screen to be prompted with which Race you wish to choose. Select either the Elyos or Asmodians and click "Next". Now, choose which Class and Gender you wish to be. You can view the starting statistics and information for each Class in the box in the top left corner. Once you select your Class, click "Next". If you want to read more about Races, Classes, and Sub-Classes, please read the following guide: Guide on Races, Classes, and Sub-Classes After you have chosen your Race and Class, you should be at this screen:
The character displayed on your screen will be different than the one above, unless some strange coincidence occurred. Now you can go about creating your character. The box in the top left is for your character's name, so enter it there. On the left side are two options, one of a head and one of a body. You can click either to select from one of many pre-sets. Once you select a pre-set, you can then go to the right side of the screen and chance specific characteristics. For the head options, be sure to realize that there are two separate tabs of options. You can switch tabs by simply clicking on the alternate tab. Once you have designed your character, be sure to choose a voice from the bottom left. While you work, you can change the camera view and the clothes on your character by the commands at the bottom center of the screen. Once you are finished, click "Create". Once you've created your character, you will be brought back to the Character Select screen. Click on the character you just created and then click the "Start" button at the bottom of your screen. You will now enter the world of Atreia!
The User Interface, or UI, is your basic screen’s layout of all of the windows. This is how you interact with the game. You cannot play any game without first understanding where things are located on the UI, how to interact with the UI, and how to customize the UI to your preferences. In the next sections, I will cover every aspect of the UI so that you can understand where a specific window is located, how to get there, what it is for, and how you use it.
The Player Window is the window located either on the bottom left side of your screen with your character’s pictures or on the top left side of your screen with your character’s class picture. The difference depends on which HUD you use. Choosing a HUD will be covered in a later section. The Player Window is one of the most important windows and is used every time you are in combat. The following sections will go over the Player Window in detail. (1) Level The first part of the Player Window is the Level Indicator. This is on the far left of the Player Window and is simply a number. The number indicates your current Level. For my character in the screenshot, he is Level 20. (2) Character Picture/Class Icon To the right of the Level Indicator is a circle of either your Character Picture (Bottom HUD) or Class Icon (Top HUD). If you use the Bottom HUD, then this is simply a picture of your character’s head. If you use the Top HUD, then this indicates which class you are. Each class has a specific icon:
(3) HP Meter The HP Meter shows the amount, both in bar form and in number form, of your character’s current and maximum HP, or Hit Points. HP is the health of your character. If this number reaches 0, your character will die. HP slowly regenerates over time, but can quickly be recovered through bandages, potions or healing abilities. How to display the numbers on your Meters will be covered in a later section. (4) MP Meter The MP Meter shows the amount, both in bar form and in number form, of your character’s current and maximum MP, or Mana Points. MP is the energy consumed to use your character’s skills. All classes use MP as the cost of their skills. If this number reaches 0, your character will no longer be able to use skills that require MP until it is regenerated back. MP slowly regenerates over time, but can quickly be recovered through potions or certain abilities. (5) DP Meter Until you complete your Ascension quest and become a Daeva (available at Level 9), this will always be 0. Once you are a Daeva, this bar will slowly fill each time you kill something that rewards you with XP. The more difficult your opponent is and the less help you receive killing it, the more DP, or Divine Points, you will generate. The DP Meter maxes out at 4,000 and cannot go any higher. Once a Daeva, each class receives special abilities that consume DP per cast. Your DP Meter will go to 0 every time you die or log off the character for more than 5 minutes. DP can also be spent on morphing substances and certain special events. You use DP to morph Aether into some other material. More recipes can be found later on in the game through Abyss content. If your faction has control of an Abyss Fortress, there will be a merchant who sells recipes. Each Abyss Fortress can contain different recipes. Once your DP bar reaches 2,000, your character will begin to glow and the bar will reset and change colors. Once it then reaches 3,000, your character will begin to glow even more and once again the bar will reset and change colors. Once it then reaches 4,000, your character will begin to glow even more and the bar will no longer move unless you consume DP through your DP ability. Opposite of some current rumors, DP does not influence the RNG aspect of the game. For example, rumors claim that the higher your DP amount, the better your chance is of proc'ing crafts, getting special items to drop, etc. This is not true. DP does not affect the RNG aspect of the game in any shape or form. (6) Power Shard Counter This is only viewable with the HUD Top display. The little sword icon in-between your Class Icon and your Meters represents if you have Power Shards enabled or disabled. If the icon is grayed out, you have them disabled. If the icon is white, you have them enabled. You can also hover over the icon with your cursor in order to view how many charges your Main Hand Weapon and Off Hand Weapon have.
The Mini Map is located either on the bottom right of your screen (Bottom HUD) or the top right of your screen (Top HUD). It is a large circle that has a radar-like map inside. The Mini Map shows your compass direction, your character’s location and where you are facing, NPCs, Quests, and map directions (including distances). You can also hover over the map on close targets, Quests, or map directions to view what exactly they are. Attached to the mini map are two small buttons, one for the Game Time and one for the World Map. I will cover all of the uses of the Mini Map in detail below. There is also the option to zoom in or out on the Mini Map. (1) Compass The Compass works in two ways, depending on the options you have selected. Under the User Interface section of the Game Options tab of the System Options window, there is an option to “Fix Compass on North”. If checked, North will always be on the top of the Mini Map and as you turn, your character’s arrow will turn. If unchecked, your character’s arrow will always be facing towards the top of the Mini Map and as you turn, the North indicator will move around the Mini Map. Using the Compass is always useful when you know where you are and where you need to go. If you are at Point A and need to go to Point B and Point B is North-West of Point A, then you know that you need to travel in a North-Westerly direction. Thus, you can use the Compass to see which direction you are traveling. (2) Arrows and Indicators On the Mini Map, there are the following Arrows and Indicators: (3) Game Time The Game Time button is attached to the top right part of the Mini Map (HUD Top) or the bottom left part of the Mini Map (HUD Bottom). If you hover over this, quite simply, it shows you the time inside Aion. This is not the same as actual time! Aion time runs much faster than real time. In Aion, each hour is 5 minutes long. Which makes 12 minutes Aion-time equivalent to 1 minute real-time and a day Aion-time equivalent to 2 hours real-time. Also, midnight and noon in game will always fall on the hour. Aions uses game time for lots of NPC spawns. Using the above information should help you gauge how long in real time you have to wait for specific spawns. (4) World Map The World Map button is located on the bottom right of both HUDs. If clicked, this will bring up the World Map for the region you are currently in. The World Map will be discussed in a later section.
Quickbars are always located in the bottom center of your screen. When you first log into the game, you will have the Basic Quickbar (located on the very bottom) and Extra Quickbar 1 located directly above it. Quickbars are used to place any type of Action Ability onto here for quick access. You can then use the Key Mapping Tab of the Options Window to create a key shortcut for a certain button. This will be covered in the Key Mapping Actions on Quickbars section below. Placing Actions onto Quickbars There are many ways to place Action Abilities onto your Quickbars. The first is simply opening your Skill Window and then Left-Click, hold, and drag it to the Quickbar. This will then add that Ability to the specific button you dragged it to. From the Skills Window, you can drag any of the Actions from any of the tabs onto your Quickbar except for Passive Tab, as there is no action to take. You can place Crafting Abilities to use or open up information for that Craft, you can place Emotes to use that specific Emote, you can place Actions to use those Actions, and you can place Chain Abilities to use that specific Ability when it is available. The second way of adding Action Abilities to your Quickbars is from your Inventory. By opening your Profile or Inventory Window, you can Left-Click, hold, and drag items that have Abilities and place them onto your Quickbar. An example of such an item would be Scrolls or Potions. This way, you are able to use these items through the Quickbar without having to access your Inventory Window. The third way of adding Action Abilities to your Quickbars is from the Macro Window. You can place a Macro onto your Quickbar so that you can simply press that button or use a Key Map and it will automatically run that Macro. Macros will be covered in a later section. Key Mapping Actions on Quickbars
In order to create a shortcut to an Action on a Quickbar, you must open the System Menu and click the Options button. Then go to the Key Mapping Tab and scroll down to the Quickbar category. Find which # you want to map a Shortcut Key to and then change the Key Map for that Action. You can do this by clicking the current Shortcut Key and entering your new one. Now, when you press that Shortcut Key, you will use that mapped key. More details on this are covered in a later section. For the picture above, I changed the Shortcut Key for Basic Quickbar #4 to 'Shift + G'. Now, instead of pressing '4' to use the Action on Basic Quickbar #4, I would press 'Shift + G'. Using Actions In order to use an Action, you can either click or use a Shortcut Key via the method above. When you use an Action, the game will go to the root of the source and then take that Action. For example, if you have placed a Potion onto your Quickbar and then you click that button, the game will go into your Inventory Window for you and consume that Potion. Do not worry, your Inventory Window will not open itself or anything like that, but essentially, that is how this works and that is why Quickbars are so useful.
The XP Bar is at the very bottom of your UI and is a horizontal line. When empty, there are 20 boxes, 5 inside each major subdivision. Each box is equivalent to 5% of your character’s current XP towards the next Level. Once you fill a major subdivision, that is equivalent to 25% of your character’s XP towards the next Level. As you gain XP, the empty XP Bar will fill with a blue line. Once the blue line reaches the end of the XP Bar, you will gain a Level and the XP Bar will reset and become empty again.
If you die, a grayed out blue line will appear at the end of your blue line. This accounts for the XP lost from a death that can be recovered if you heal your Soul by a Soul Healer. Soul Healers are always found by Obelisks, which are used to bind yourself at. The Death System will be covered in a later section. If you hover your cursor over the XP Bar, a text box will pop up indicating the value of your current XP out of the value of the required XP to Level. If you have died and have recoverable XP, this will also indicate the value of recoverable XP you have after your Current XP/ Required XP to Level.
The Menu can be accessed from your UI and allows you to access many other windows and features of the game. All that is required is simply clicking what it is you wish to open. The following will describe what each option is and its uses.
The Profile Window is your character’s main window. For the most part, it contains all of the information for your character. This is where your character’s equipment, statistics, inventory, and many other features can be accessed and viewed. The Profile Window has 4 different tabs. I will go over each tab in detail. Info Tab The Info Tab is your main statistics and gear window. Through it, you can view your character’s statistics, and your equipped gear. The following are specifically what you can view on the Info Tab: HP: Your character’s maximum HP value. Increased through buffs and equipment. Physical Defense: Your character’s current Physical Defense value. This value determines how much physical damage you take per hit. As you gain more Physical Defense, the amount of damage you receive per hit is reduced. Magical Resistance: Your character’s current Magical Resistance. This value determines how often you fully resist incoming detrimental spells cast upon you. Some stuns are considered magical attacks and thus can be resisted with high Magical Resistance. (Click the Arrow to See these Statistics) Atk Speed: Your character’s current Attack Speed for your equipped weapon. This value determines the delay between each weapon swing with Auto Attack. A lower Attack Speed value also will speed up the animations for all actions. Main Hand 1: For your Primary Weapon. Stigma Tab
The Stigma Tab is used for viewing Stigmas. Stigmas can be used after your character reaches Level 20. At Level 20, you can only equip 2 Stigma Stones. However, as your Level increases, more slots become active. You will receive your 3rd Stigma Slot at Level 30, your 4th Stigma Slot at Level 40, and your 5th Stigma Slot at Level 50. In addition, you can also equip up to 3 Advanced Stigmas. You can unlock your 1st Advanced Stigma slot by completing the quest, "The Shulack's Stigma" at Level 45. You can unlock your 2nd Advanced Stigma slot by completing the quest, "A Booklet on Stigma" after completing the 1st quest. You can unlock the 3rd Advanced Stigma slot by completing the quest, "Secret of the Greater Stigma" at Level 50 after completing the 2nd quest. You can view your class' Advanced Stigma trees by clicking the Advanced Stigma button. You must use certain Stigmas in order to equip others, therefore, viewing the trees is very important when deciding on which Stigmas to use. The number in the bottom right of the Stigma Tab indicates how many Stigma Shards you have available to spend. Stigma Shards are used to equip Stigma Stones. When you reach Level 20, you will be given a Quest that will demonstrate how you equip and remove Stigma Stones. The Abyss Tab is entirely for PvP statistics. This tab keeps track of your current rank (which is based on your Abyss Points), what the next rank is, how many Abyss Points are required to reach the next rank, and your Kills and Abyss Points earned for today, this week, last week, and in total. Similar to the XP Bar, this is a bar (located below your current Abyss Points) which shows your progress towards the next rank. Every time you reach the next rank, this bar will reset and begin to fill up as you approach the rank after that. At the bottom there are options for you to view your Abyss Skill and Abyss Rank. The Abyss Skill button allows you to view skills earn from your Abyss Rank. The Abyss Rank button allows you to view your server’s PvP rankings. You can view both faction’s individual rankings and legion rankings through this window. Title Tab
The last tab is the Title Tab. This tab allows you to view all of the titles your character has earned through special achievements. When you select a title on the list, the top box will show what its statistical benefits are and the bottom box will show the statistical benefits of your current title. The Change Title button will change your title to whichever title you have currently selected. The Clear Title button will remove your current title. The counter on the bottom left shows how many titles you have and how many titles there are total for you to earn. In my case, I have earned 6 titles out of 50. Cube
Your Cube is considered to be your Inventory. There are two ways to access your Cube. The first is through the Profile Window. At any tab, your Cube is located at the bottom part of the window. The second way to access your Cube is by pressing the Key Map for your Inventory Window or selecting the Inventory option under the Menu. This brings up a window that strictly just shows your Cube. When you first create a character, you will only have access to the Default Cube. Throughout the game, you will be able to expand your cube to up to a current maximum of 99. You can view how to expand your cube down below. The Inventory Window, as mentioned above, is used to access your Cube. Read the Cube section to find out more.
The Skill Window is used to access all of your character’s skills, whether active, passive, crafting, emotes, actions, or chains. The following will describe what is contained in each tab. Active Tab The Active Tab contains all of your character’s Active Skills. These are your main Combat Skills, whether it’s Melee Attacks, Spells, Heals, Buffs, etc. Every time you learn new Skills, this is where the majority of them will go. As mentioned above, you can Left-Click, hold, and drag Skills from this tab onto your Quickbars for easy access and use. Included in this tab are also Chain Abilities. When you learn a Chain Ability, it can be found both in this tab and the Chains Tab. Also included in this tab are Stigma Abilities. When you learn a Stigma Ability, it is added to the very bottom of the list in this tab. Passive Tab The Passive Tab contains all of your character’s Passive Skills. These cannot be interacted with in any way and are only used for viewing the special Skills your character always has active. These Passive Skills include which weapons your character can use, which armors your character can use, special Buffs to specific statistics that are permanent, etc. Crafting Tab
The Crafting Tab contains all of your character’s Crafting and Extracting Skills and Abilities. There are 6 Crafts in the game, Alchemy, Armorsmithing, Cooking, Handicrafting, Sewing, and Weaponsmithing. If you learn these, you can access their Craft Windows through this tab. Also, you can use this tab to view use your Aether and Vitality Extraction Skills. Lastly, you can use this tab to view your Morphing Skill. Morphing was described earlier in the DP section. You can access this Skill via this tab. The Crafting Tab will also show your current Skill Level for each ability and the maximum you can currently raise them to. Emotes Tab Quite simply, the Emotes Tab allows you to view all of the game’s Emotes. An Emote is a command you type that will then cause your character to take an Action. For example, using the /dance Emote will cause your character to begin dancing. You can Left-Click, hold, and drag an Emote to a Quickbar for easy access. Actions Tab The Actions Tab is a very important tab for players new to Aion. In this tab are very important Action commands that may be difficult to figure out on your own. The following are contained in this tab: Toggle Combat: Using this action will turn Combat on and off. When Combat is on, your character will attempt to auto attack your target. Chains Window The Chains Tab in the Chains Window is used to view your character’s Chain Abilities. Chains are sequences of Abilities that are triggered after using other certain Abilities. For example, a Chain would be if you had three abilities (Ability A, Ability B, and Ability C). Ability B only can be used after successfully hitting your target with Ability A and Ability C only can be used after successfully hitting your target with Ability B. So your Chain would be Ability A -> Ability B -> Ability C. The Chains Tab allows you to view these chains and also Left-Click, hold, and drag them to your Quickbar. These abilities are also listed under the Active Tab. From the Chains Window, you can also select the Skill List Tab. This will list all possible skills your character can learn, including Skills learned from Stigma Stones. This is useful to know for when new skills are available to you and what they are.
The Quests Window is used to view your current and completed Quests. Quests are the main source of XP and generally the main method of leveling your character other than simply killing things. As you complete Quests, you can receive XP rewards, coin rewards, item rewards, or title rewards; or all four. Typically, the harder the Quest the more rewarding it is for completing it. Also, you can sticky a Quest on the right side of your UI by checking the box next to the quest. This is useful for keeping track of your progress towards the completion of a Quest without keeping the Quest Window up. For all Quests, to the left of the Quest name is “lvl #.” This indicates what the suggested level to complete that Quest is. Also, the color of the Quest name indicates the difficulty as well. Red: Difficult To the right of the Quest name is either: Nothing: You haven’t finished the quest yet. In front of some Quest names can be: [Group]: This quest requires a small group (2-6 players) to complete if you are of equal level. You can also change the view of your quests from either viewing In Progress Quests or Completed Quests. There are three tabs for the Quest Window, all of which will be covered below. Campaign Tab The Campaign Tab is for viewing your Campaign Quests, or yellow quests. These are the main storyline Quests for your character. Whenever you enter a new region, typically there will be a way to obtain these Quests. They are obtained as a long list and take longer than usual to complete. The reward for completing an entire chain of Campaign Quests usually is a very nice reward above the nice rewards for each individual Quest. Typically, you will receive a very nice item or title once you complete all of an area’s Campaign Quests. When you first obtain a chain of Campaign Quests, not all may be viewable. Some Quests may appear as, “??????”. This means that either you need to complete one of the lower Quests first or you need to be a higher Level in order to unlock these Quest. The following are indicators for the Campaign Quests: Update a Campaign Quest: Yellow Arrow Standard Tab The Standard Tab is for viewing the basic Quests, or blue Quests. These are the basic Quests you receive from all over the game. They can range from collecting items, killing a certain amount of mobs, or simply talking to another NPC. The following are indicators for the Standard Quests: Accept a Standard Quest: Blue Arrow with No Lines Work Order Tab The Work Order Tab is strictly for Crafting. For each Craft, you are able to accept Work Orders in order to raise your Skill Level. A new Work Order can be accepted every 10 Skill Points and every Work Order can be repeated as many times as you wish. However, once you are 40 Skill Points higher than a Work Order’s required Skill Level, you will no longer be able to obtain that Work Order. You can also no longer accept Work Orders once you become an Expert in that craft. An Expert is someone with a skill level of 400 or higher. When completing a Work Order, you will receive a random Craft-related reward in the form of materials, a design, or possibly even an item or item that begins a new Quest.
The World Map has only a few basic features. The first is if you Right-Click on the map, the map will zoom out. There are three basic Regions in Aion: Asmodae, Abyss, and Elysea. You can click on one of these in the top left corner to view that Region. Once you select basic Region, you can then select a Zone. You can do this by either Left-Clicking one of the Zones on the map or selecting it from the drop-down box at the top of the window. Once you select a Zone, you will see a detailed map for that Zone. From this view, you can now add Map Notes to your map. In order to add a Map Note, Hold the ‘Ctrl’ key and Right-Click where you want to add a Map Note. This will place a Green ‘X’ onto your map. You can then Right-Click the ‘X’ to delete it, paste the Location into your Chat Box, paste the Location into your Memo Pad, or change the name of the Location. If you paste it in either your Chat Box or Memo Pad, you can then use that link as a way to bring that point back up onto your map. Even if you delete the Location on your map and then click the link, it will place the Location back at the same spot. If you paste it into your Memo Pad, the link will remain even if you log off. If you have multiple Locations, there will also be an option to Delete All locations on the map. Since you can create links for Locations, this also allows you to share Locations with other players through the Chat Box. If you have never been to a Zone before, your map will be, for the most part, blank. As you travel through that Zone and discover parts of the Zone, they will show up on your map. You can also use the map to view places where you can turn in a quest. If you have been to an area before which contains an NPC for a Quest you completed, a blue or yellow marker will appear on your map indicating that is the Location of that NPC.
The Macro Window is used for creating and using Macros that you create. Through the Macro Window you can create Macros, which are small programs or a set of commands, to do special actions for you. For example, you can write a script for a Macro that, when pressed, will automatically target every player in your group and cast a specific spell on them. The Macro Window has four tabs: Macro Tab, Variable Tab, Help Tab, and Example Tab. Macro Tab The Macro Tab is used for viewing your created Macros, creating new Macros, or deleting already created Macros. From this tab, you can also view the information of a Macro by selecting it. If you Left-Click and hold, you can drag a created Macro onto your Quickbars. If you want to create a new Macro, you can hit the New Macro button and a new window will come up. From this window you can name your Macro, put a short description of what the Macro does, select an Icon for the Macro, and then write the Script for the Macro. Variable Tab With Macros, you can set Variables as certain Skills. For example, you can write a Script that sets the Variable “1" as one of your Skills. In later Macros, you can then refer simply to the Variable 1 and that will use the Skill. This is a method of saving time from having to write the Script to use the actual Skill. Help Tab The Help Tab is used for helping you with creating Macros. You can use this tab to figure out different commands and how to run Macros. If you are going to create Macros, I highly suggest reading this tab. Example Tab The Example Tab is used for giving you a few examples of what Macros look like. You can use these Macros if you wish, but they are really for just giving you a glimpse at working Macros. (For me, these didn’t even work though!)
The Private Store is a way to publicly sell your goods without using the Trade Broker. You can set up your Private Store at any location and at no cost. You can also create a Store Message and change your prices at no cost. The Private Store has an area for your current Items for Sale, your Store Message, Start/Stop and Close buttons, and your Cube. The Items for Sale area shows all of the items you currently have for sale and at what price you are selling them at. In order to add an item for sale, Left-Click, hold, and drag it from your Cube into the Items for Sale area. Then enter the price at which you want to sell that item. If you select multiple items (like 3 Potions) the price you enter will be for each individual item. For example, if you do add 3 Potions and enter in 100 Kinah, you will then start selling 3 Potions for 300 Kinah (3 x 100 Kinah each). You can also Right-Click on an item in your Cube to select a selling price and/or decide on how many of multiple items you wish to put up for sale. To remove an item from your Items for Sale area, you can simply Right-Click it. The Store Message is a message that will always be present when you are conducting business (after you hit the Start button). You can type any message you want into this box to announce special deals, what you are selling, etc. If you want to put an item link into your Store Message from your Inventory, then hit ‘Ctrl’ Right-Click the item to link it into your Chat Box. Hit ‘Enter’ to then submit the link to Chat. Then, Right-Click the link from the Chat Box and hit ‘Copy to Memo Pad’. Open your Memo Pad through the Community section of the Menu. You can then highlight the item link by Left-Clicking and dragging through it. Then, hit ‘Ctrl’ C to copy it. Go into your Store Message and hit ‘Ctrl’ V to paste the item link into the Store Message box. Once you begin your Private Store, the message will appear as a Chat Bubble above your character until you turn off the Private Store. The Start/Stop button is simply used to toggle your Private Store on and off. In order to begin selling, hit the Start button. In order to stop selling, hit the Stop button. The Close button simply closes the window. The Community section of the Menu gives you the opportunity to open the Social Window, the Alliance Window, the Legion Window, and your Memo Pad. The list above will be described below.
The Social Window is used to view your Friends List, your Blocked list, and to search for specific players in the game. The Friends List is for all of your buddies. In order to add a buddy, click the Add button in the bottom right. Then enter the name of the player you wish to add to your Friends List. In order to add someone to the list, they must be online, they must be the same faction as you, and they must accept your invitation. In order to remove a buddy from your Friends List, select a buddy and then hit the Remove button in the bottom right. You can also add a friend by using the command, “/friend [name of the person you wish to add]” without the brackets. Having buddies on your Friends List allows you to quickly view their level, class, region, status (online or offline), and their Note. In order to add your own Note, simply enter your note into the Note box and click the button. Then all of your buddies can view your Note. You can also Right-Click on a buddy who is online and quickly send them a whisper, invite to a group, invite to an alliance, or remove them from your buddy list. The Search Tab is used to search for specific players in the game for your faction. You can also set yourself as Solo or Group which shows other players your preference. You can search by name, level range, region, class, and also only search for those who are looking for a group. The Search Tab is mainly used for finding players to group with. You can quickly use the Search Tab by using the /who command from your Chat Box. Some useful ways of using this command are: /who 1-10 (searches for all players Level 1-10) The Block Tab is used for ignoring certain players. If a player is bothering you, you can add them to your Block list by hitting the Block button and entering their name or by typing the command, “/block [name of the person you wish to add]” without the brackets. If you wish to unblock a player, you can hit the Unblock button, use the /unblock command, or Right-Click their name and select Unblock. You can also add a note, or memo, as to why you unblocked them by Right-Clicking their name and selecting Memo, then typing in a reason. If you do have someone blocked, they will receive a message indicating that they are blocked if they try sending you a whisper.
The Alliance Window is your raid window. This is where multiple groups, up to 4, can join together to defeat difficult encounters. There are a few commands you can do in regards to an Alliance Adding someone to the Alliance: Removing someone from the Alliance: You can also appoint players to Vice Captain, which gives them the ability to invite other players to join the Alliance, shift players around the groups, brand PCs or NPCs, and do a Ready Check. You can have multiple Vice Captains, but only one Captain. The Captain is the only one able to set the distribution settings. The Captain can also do every other command and can set someone else as the Captain, demoting themselves to Vice Captain. If you are doing a difficult encounter and want to watch your entire Alliance's Status Bars, you can Left-Click, hold, and drag a "Group #" tab onto your main screen and this will create a small Group-like Window for you to view their status.
The Legion Window is your guild window. This is where you can view all of the information about your guild if you are in one. You can view your Legion’s Level, Rank, Contribution, Member information, and then view multiple tabs about your members. You can also use the Legion Menu to invite others to your Legion, set permissions for members and Centurions (officers), appoint a member to a Centurion, appoint a member to the Brigade General (leader, demotes you), change someone’s nickname, kick someone out of the Legion, create your own introduction, or leave the Legion. You can also write an Announcement by clicking the Write Announcement button in the top right of the window. This message will be displayed whenever a member of your Legion logs into the game. It can also be viewed in the Legion Window.
The Memo Pad is used to store valuable information in the game. Every time you edit the Memo Pad, it automatically saves itself. Therefore, if you enter in any information to the Memo Pad, it will always be there unless you delete it. The Memo Pad is useful for storing your Locations, items you want, or any other information you find useful. At the bottom part of the Memo Pad is a list of special features for the Memo Pad. I strongly suggest reading these features before using the Memo Pad as they are helpful. The Support section of the Menu allows you to view the Help and Support Window and the Change Channel Window. The Help and Support Window is just that, for help and support. If you have any issue with the game or its players, use this window to search for what actions you should take. You can also submit petitions for other problems that you cannot resolve. The Help and Support Window also contains an FAQ for frequently asked questions. If you have questions, be sure to view this first.
The Change Channel Window is very important for low levels. This features allows you to change Channels, or regions, inside a Zone. Not all Zones have multiple Channels, but the 0-10 Zone and the 10-20 Zone do. In a new game, these tend to be very crowded and being able to find a Channel that is not crowded helps you to level much faster and without frustration. Simply select the Change Channel option and then select a Channel from the drop down menu in the top right window of your screen. Hit Move and your character will change to that Channel in 10 seconds. Your character will not physically move in regards to the Zone and all Channels contain identical content. Think of Channels as mini-servers for each Zone.
The System Menu is the main Menu. You can access this by pressing the ‘Esc’ key or by clicking Menu and then selecting System Menu. From here, you can quit the game, log out of the game to the Character Select Screen, view Options, or close the Menu. The only one that I will explain will be the Options Window. If you open the Options Window, there will be four tabs: Game Options, Graphics Options, Audio Options, and Key Mapping. If you change the options, be sure to hit ‘Apply’ to save your changes. Also, if you wish to reset all of your changes, hit ‘Reset’. If you wish to set your options to the default settings, hit ‘Default’. The Game Options are broken down into seven categories. I will go over each category below:

Chain Skill Indicator: Checking this will place your Chain Skills in the middle of your screen when they can be used like so:
View Buff Icon Duration: Checking this will display underneath your buffs how much time remains until they wear off. Chat Combat Info The Graphics Options tab is for viewing your computer’s settings for the visual effects of the game. The Audio Options tab is for viewing your computer’s settings for the sound effects of the game. The Key Mapping tab is for creating Shortcut Keys to the game’s many functions. Simply click the box you wish to set a Shortcut Key for, enter your Shortcut Key, and then hit ‘Enter’. To delete a Shortcut Key, select it, hit ‘Backspace’ and then hit ‘Enter’.
The Influence Ratio is used to view the current PvP balance for your server. When you click the Influence Ratio a window pops up. This window indicates the current prices you are being offered for your goods (Price), the prices you are paying to purchase goods (Tax), and the percentages of who owns Abyss Fortresses in the Abyss. The more Abyss Fortresses your faction owns, the higher your Influence Ratio, the higher the Price value, and the lower the Tax value.
The Flight Meter becomes a useful tool once you have ascended as a Daeva. Until then, you cannot Fly and the Flight Meter has no purpose. However, once you can Fly, this is your indicator of your maximum/remaining flight time, the cooldown remaining before you can spread your wings again, and your key binds for Spreading your Wings, Closing your Wings, Raising your Altitude, and Locking your Altitude. When you are flying, you should pay attention to whether the Wing button is white or gold. In the picture above, it is gold. This means that I am currently flying. The shaded portion of the Wing button represents my cooldown. When you first begin flying, the entire Wing button is shaded indicating you have 10 seconds of a cooldown left. For the next 10 seconds, the shaded region becomes smaller and finally disappears. Once it is gone, you are able to Spread your Wings again. Surrounding the Wing button is your Flight Meter. This represents how much time remaining you have left before your wings will automatically close. For the majority of the time, this will remain green. Once you get low, it will turn yellow. Once you get very low, there will be an audio sound that triggers and the bars will turn red indicating that you should land immediately. Once this meter runs out, your wings will automatically close and you will fall to the ground.
By Default, there is one Chat Box with 4 tabs. These tabs are All, Normal, Combat, and Group. You can add or delete tabs however you wish, but you cannot delete the All tab. You can also Right-Click on a tab to change its name or change what’s contained in it through the Tab Options. From here, you can fill out the check boxes of what data is entered into that chat box and the color of the text for each type of Chat. You can also Left-Click, hold, and drag tabs out of the main Chat Box to create a new Chat Box. Chat Boxes can be moved around by dragging their main tab (So the All tab for the default Chat Box). Chat Boxes can be resized by putting your cursor on their edges until the "<->" cursor appears, Left-Clicking, holding, and resizing to your liking. On the default Chat Box, you can click the Chat Preferences Menu to access more options. Also, while you are actively chating, hitting the 'Up Arrow' key or 'Down Arrow' key will scroll between your recent chat entries. Change Chat Mode Group Commands Legion Commands Loot Distribution Petition General While in combat, moving grants your character with statistical bonuses or penalties. Moving Forward: Physical Attack is increased. Physical Defense and Elemental Defenses are decreased. If you are moving successfully while in combat, light green arrows will appear by your character's feet indicating which movement bonus you are currently receiving. Although actual numbers are not given, the bonuses and penalties are around 10%. The best method for moving while staying in range of your target is to press a key to move and then use the mouse to direct yourself. It does take time getting used to, but can help you kill things faster or survive in difficult situations. If you just began, you will notice an NPC (or Non-Player Character) standing in front of you. If you Right-Click on them, it will bring up a dialogue window. If they have a Blue Arrow above their head, this means that they have a Quest for you to complete. If they have a Blue Arrow with 2 lines, this means that you need to talk to this NPC to update a current quest. If they have a circle icon above their head, this means that you can turn in a quest to this NPC. Go through the dialogue to do what is necessary to advance any quests you may have. If you just accepted a Quest, the Quest will begin flashing on the right part of your screen. On the top right of the flashing Quest there will be a small box. If you check this box, the Quest will stop flashing and remain there for you to view your progress. If you do not check this box, the Quest will disappear after a short amount of time.
If the Quest disappears and you wish to sticky it onto your screen, hit ‘J’ to bring up your Quest Window. Find the Quest that you want to sticky and click the box to the left of the Quest. This will place a check mark and sticky the Quest on the right part of your screen.
As you complete the Quest, there will be multiple indicators of your progress. If you made any progress (killed a mob, collected an item, etc) text will pop up in the center of your screen. Also, if you have the Quest sticky’d, your progress will be marked and the Quest will update (Say, if you killed 1 of 4 mobs, instead of 0/4, it will say 1/4). If you do not have the Quest sticky'd, it will begin flashing on the right side of your screen. You can also view a Quest’s progress through the Quest Window.
If you have difficulties figuring out where to go for a Quest, you can open the Quest Window, select the quest, and read its details. If it still isn’t clear, you can see if the Quest offers any links (blue text). Click these and a new window will pop up with more information. If this still isn’t enough, sometimes the link will allow you to hit a Location button. Hitting this will place a purple ‘X’ onto your World Map of where you need to go. You can also view the rewards for the Quest in this window. Once a Quest’s requirements have been fulfilled, return to NPC who completes the Quest and interact with them to obtain your reward or obtain a follow up quest. The following are Quest indicators which are seen above NPC's heads, on your Mini Map, or on your World Map:
Return to top Monsters are all over in the game. They are the little critters walking around in the nearby area if you just started. Through the options listed in above sections, you can view their names above their heads. Monsters’ names will either be written in Red, Orange, Yellow, White, or Gray text depending on their difficulty. Red means that they are 3 or more levels above you, Orange means that they are 1 or 2 levels above you, yellow means that they are the same level as you, white means that they are slightly below you, and gray means that they are way below you. Once you find a suitable target, use your Active Skills to defeat the mob. You can also use the Attack/Chat button, which should be ‘1’ on your Basic Quickbar, to auto attack the target. However, you will have to use your skills to defeat the monster, as auto attacking won’t be sufficient most of the time. Your Skills are usually ‘2’ and/or ‘3’ on your Basic Quickbar. Be sure to read what they do by hovering over the button so that you know how to use the skills.
Once you defeat a monster, you will receive XP and will have the loot rights to it. If the corpse of the defeated monsters has a blue glow above it, this means that you can loot it and there is something on the corpse. To loot a corpse, Right-Click on the corpse itself to bring up the Loot Window. Or, you can use the Attack/Chat button while targeting the corpse to do the same. Once the Loot Window comes up, Right-Click on the item(s) you wish to loot, or hit the ‘Take All’ button to automatically loot everything. At certain levels above your opponent, you will not receive loot from them. If you are 8 levels above your opponent, the chance to receive loot is significantly reduced. If you are 9 levels above your opponent, you cannot receive any loot.
Throughout the game, there will be many gatherable items. As a Human, you gather. As a Daeva, you extract. Either way, it’s the same process. If you find a gatherable or extractable item (you will have to look as there are no special indicators for them), you will be able to view information on it by hovering over the actual item. Most gatherable/extractable items come in the form of plants, flowers, bushes, food on the ground, logs, ore, etc. In order to gather or extract this item, Right-Click on it to bring up the Collecting Window. Now, you must wait to see if you either pass or fail to collect the item. If you pass, the item will be added to your inventory. If you fail, you will not receive anything. Most gatherable/extractable items have 3 charges, pass or fail. This means that you can only attempt to collect it 3 times before it disappears. In Aion, all gatherable/extractable items are static spawns. This means that they will always reappear in the same spot after a certain amount of time. There is no randomness. Most gatherable/extractable items will respawn in 1 minute. Meaning, if you find 3 or 4 near each other, by the time you gather the third or fourth, the first would have respawned. This makes it much easier to gather/extract lots of items. Once you are a Daeva and can fly, all zones will have Aether to extract. Aether can be found floating in midair wherever flying is allowed. Aether, unlike ground gatherables/extractables, can be collected up to 5 times. As you gather, you will gain Skill Points for that collection Skill (either Aether or Vitallity). Each gatherable item requires a certain Skill Level to extract from. If your Skill Level is not at or above this required Level, you will not be able to extract from it. If your Skill Level is at or just slightly above, your chances of failing are quite high. As your Skill Level gets higher above a gatherable item's required Skill Level, your chances of passing increase and you will extract at a faster rate. You gain Skill Levels by earning XP from extracting. Each time you extract successfully, you earn a set amount of XP depending on the required Skill Level of the item. The game determines how fast you increase your Skill Level by both the difficulty of the extraction (the more difficult, the faster you will increase your Skill Level) and the amount of XP you earn. You can view the difficulty of the item by hovering your cursor over it. A window will pop up with the item's name as a color. Red indicates that you cannot extract it, yellow indicates that you can extract it at a difficult rate, white indicates that you can extract it easily, and gray indicates that you can extract it at no Skill gain.
Once you raise an extraction Skill to 99, you must visit a Vitality or Aether Master and have them upgrade you to the next tier. They can be located in the major city of your faction in the Crafting area. The cost to do so is Kinah, but you will not be able to raise your Skill Level past 99 until you do this. There is a new tier every 100 Skill Points after 99. Once you are low on HP or low on MP from too much combat, there are a few methods of regaining your HP and MP. First, you can use Bandage Heal to recover a decent amount of HP in a few seconds. You can Bandage Heal yourself once every 16 seconds as long as you have bandages available. Another way of recovering HP or MP is by using a Potion. Potions have varying cool-times, but generally are 30 seconds or a minute. Another way of recovering HP and MP is through Resting. You can Rest by pressing the ‘,’ (comma) key or by using the Toggle Rest button from the Action Tab in the Skills Window. Resting will regenerate a large amount of HP and MP every few seconds.
Once you become a Daeva, you will be given access to Herb Treatment and Mana Treatment Abilities. These require a form of Odella Powder, which can be bought from any General Goods Merchant, to restore a set amount of HP (Herb Treatment) or MP (Mana Treatment) every 16 seconds. It is highly suggested that all players carry lots of Odella Powder around in order to use these Abilities frequently. Odella Powder is very cheap and these Abilities help you to efficiently continue fighting with little down time.
Aion’s Death System is fairly easy to get along with. It’s not too harsh and avoids situations like ‘Corpse Camping’. If you die in Aion and are in a normal area (if you fall to your death you will automatically release), you will become a corpse and have 30 minutes to stare at your death screen. If there is nobody around to resurrect you, click the Ok button to release. This will cause you to come back to life at your bind spot. In order to bind yourself at new locations, simply search for an Obelisk, Right-Click it, and pay the amount to rebind.
Once you do release, you will be in need of Soul Healing to rid yourself of the horrid debuff. The Soul Healers are always next to the Obelisks and again, for a fee, will heal your soul. This not only will remove the debuff from you, but will also recover almost all of the lost XP you may have incurred through your death. And that’s it! Simply return to where you were and continue on with what you were doing. Also, you cannot de-level from deaths. The lowest your XP can go is to 0 of your current level. PvP deaths also do not incur XP losses. If you die from another player, simply Heal your Soul for 1 kinah to remove the debuff. When you level up, your Skills will automatically Level up as well. However, you will have to find your class trainer and purchase Skill Manuals to learn new Skills or new ranks of Skills. You can learn new Skills at: Level 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, and 41-50. Sometimes you will have access to special Skills at Levels other than those listed above. The ones listed above are for Skill Manuals. When you purchase a Skill Manual and are of the required level, simply Right-Click the Skill Manual from your Inventory to learn the Skill. Then, hit ‘K’ to bring up your Skill Window and search for the newly acquired Skill in the Active Tab. Left-Click, hold, and drag this skill onto your Quickbar so that you can use it. When you do learn a new rank of a Skill, you will have to place that on your Quickbar as well, as it will not automatically override the lesser rank! Some Skills that you learn will not be in the Active Tab. If they are not, do not worry. The ones that do not show up in the Active Tab are in the Passive Tab. These are Skills that are permanently active no matter what and require no action to take. Upon reaching Level 9, you will automatically receive the Ascension quest requiring you to either speak to Munin (Asmodian) or Pernos (Elyos). It is at this point that you should no longer XP or turn in any other Quests but the Ascension. Completing the Ascension quest, which requires 10 minutes of running around and talking to NPCs, will give you up to 73,200 XP. This will put you at 100% towards Level 10. All you will have to do is gain 1 XP afterwards to reach Level 10. Therefore, turning in any Quests or spending anytime XP’ing after reaching Level 9 would be a waste. Once you do finish the Ascension quest, you will have chosen your Sub-Class and became a Daeva. Daeva’s can Fly, extract from resources, and Morph Aether into resources, among other things. Flying is one of the most important actions in Aion. At higher levels, it is incredibly important to be adept at Flying. In order to Fly, press ‘Page Up’ or click the Fly button to spread your wings. You can move around both horizontally and vertically now. In order to stop Flying, press ‘Page Down’ or click the Fly button to close your wings. Be sure to be near the ground as to not fall a long distance and die. Also pay attention to your Flight Meter. This tells you how much time you have left before your wings will automatically close. Do not be high up in the air when this happens or again, you may die. Also, while Flying, you can view your Mini Map to see if you will die or not by falling. You can also Fly entirely by using the Keyboard. Check the Key Mapping Tab of your Options in order to view the Shortcut Keys.
Flying is restricted in most of the lower level zones, but in the Abyss, which is one of the most highly used zones, and in certain places in higher level zones, you can Fly freely. Your character can also Glide by double hitting the ‘Spacebar’. You can only Glide if jumping or falling downward. Gliding will also use your Flight Meter, but in most scenarios you will not need to worry about falling long distances. If at any time you activate the ‘Scroll Lock’ key, you will not be able to Fly above a certain height. The ‘Scroll Lock’ will lock in your altitude and not allow you to Fly higher. So beware if you accidently activate this key.
There are two main methods (other than physically moving) to travel through Regions and Zones. The first can be done through a Flight Transporter. These allow you to fly between villages inside of a Region. They do not need to be discovered. So once you find one, you can fly to all Flight Transporters in that Region. There is a small fee to use this method of travel and the time it takes is very short compared to physically moving to that destination. The second method is done through a Teleporter. These allow you to travel between Regions and are instant (minus the loading time for your computer). For some areas, using a Teleporter is the only way you can reach them. For others, it simply is a time saver. There is also a small fee to use this method of travel. You must also be a Daeva before you can use the Teleporter. Also, some destinations are only unlocked after you reach a certain Level or complete a certain Campaign Quest. Each Region only has one Teleporter, but multiple Flight Transporters.
Throughout the game you will constantly be expanding your Cube. Your Cube is your Inventory. At the beginning, you will only have 27 slots available. In your faction’s first village, there will be a Cube Merchant who can expand you cube by 9 slots for a small fee. There will be many more opportunities to increase your cube later in the game. The following is how to expand your cube: Default: 27 Slots In the future, Aion will most likely add the ability to expand your cube further, but currently, the maximum is 99 slots.
In Aion, there are lots of Mailboxes. There is a Mailbox located in virtually all villages and cities for either faction. Mailboxes can be used to send and receive mail between players and to receive expired items from the Trade Broker. Mail can contain both items and coins and is sent instantly for a cost, which is dependent on the item being sent. If you have unread mail, there will be an envelope icon attached to your Mini Map indicating you have mail. Also, if you are online as you receive mail, there will be both a text message and an audio noise indicating you have mail.
In Aion, there is an ‘Auction House’, or Trade Broker, system of placing your goods onto an Exchange for others to view and purchase. It costs you a small percentage of the cost of the item you are putting up for sale to put it up for sale. This gives the advantage to the Private Store, as it is free. However, the Trade Broker is fast and easy to use and allows players to search through many filters to find what they are looking for. Once you purchase an item from the Trade Broker, you will automatically receive that item in your Inventory. In order to place items onto the Trade Broker, simply Left-Click, hold, and drag them from your Inventory into the Register Tab of the window and enter a price. Once you sell something, go to the Settle Account Tab in order to accept your money. You can only register up to 10 items at any time in the Trade Broker and you do not receive your deposit fee back if you cancel a registered item. Therefore, be certain that you wish to register an item before you actually do so. You can also filter your search by the type of item (white, green, blue, gold, or orange) through the check boxes, or filter the search by level.
In Aion, the Warehouse is your bank. Through a Warehouse Keeper, which are located in most cities and villages, you can access your bank to store certain items. Similar to a Cube Merchant, you can expand the amount of slots that your bank can hold. Also, you can use the Account Warehouse to store items that can be accessed by any character on the same server on your account. This is useful for transferring items or money between characters without having to use third person trades or mail.
Dyes are available in Aion and can be used to dye a shield, helmet, jacket, pauldron, pants, gloves, and shoes. In the older version, there are a small amount of dyes. In the newest version of the game, there are more to choose from. You can purchase dyes from merchants in the main cities for each faction in a boutique store, usually located in one of the purple-colored buildings (from the World Map).
Later versions of the game offer another way to dye your armor. While gathering from herbs, you are able to randomly gather a Petal. These Petals can then be used as a normal dye to dye one piece of your armor.
