After having the ability to play STO a little more, we've expanded our STO: Strategies and Tips Guide to over 40 pages in length as well as adding a FREE STO: Basic Information and Gameplay Guide. Please check both out if you are currently roaming through space in the STO Universe. As far as the game itself, it's still quite fun to play. The following would be our "review" of the game in its current state: Gameplay: A- All of the above characteristics are pretty self-explanatory other than Character and Storyline Progression. By Character Progression, we are describing how frequently and in-depth you can customize and upgrade your 'character' in the game. STO does a great job allowing consistent upgrades and various paths to progress in to better your character and your ships. By Storyline Progression, we are describing the basic way of progressing from Level 1 to the maximum. STO can sometimes be quite repetitive with things to do, but it's actually quite better than most other MMORPGs. A game that requires you to simply kill thousands of monsters to level would receive an 'F', so a 'B-' is meant to be a pretty decent score. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will continue expanding our guides for Star Trek Online and also top off our Aion Leveling Guides. Keep in touch! February 7, 2010
Star Trek Online: The Next Generation... of MMO's? After Aion's sad tumble, we decided to look for a new MMORPG to play. With not many options, we gave STO's Open Beta a try. To our surprise, the game actually looks quite promising. Being a Star Trek game, it will most definately have a dedicated following. Furthermore, the game is developed by Cryptic Studios, not an Asian company. Meaning, for the most part, us NA/EU players will enjoy the gameplay a lot more! Other than those simple observations, the game itself is very fun. There is a ton of customization available, two interchanging game modes, and of course great graphics and special effects. If you have ever played a sci-fi game in the past that you enjoyed, we definately suggest giving Star Trek Online a try. For those who will be playing STO, please check out our in-depth Strategy Guide. In the guide, we cover all basic aspects of the game for newcomers, details about the game's various equipment, ships, and skills, and in-depth strategies, tips, and tricks to become one of Starfleet's greatest captains! Firstly, we would like to apologize for our lack of attention recently. We have been very swamped with everything we try to do with Aion and we simply don't have enough time to get everything done. That being said, we have, for the most part, finished the Asmodian Leveling Guide up to 50. Lots of updates remain, but the guide should be good enough to help you reach 50 efficiently. In a week or two, we will begin thoroughly working on the Elyos Leveling Guide. The estimated time to complete the Elyos Leveling Guide will be less than 3 weeks from now. As far as Aion, things have been going very well on Azphel. Faiona and myself are currently leading the legion, Nightfall. Nightfall has captured every Asmodian fortress to date and farms all of the Asmodian raid encounters available (unfortuntaely, that's not saying much). In other words, we are definately holding strong against our Elyos and Asmodian counterparts. October 23, 2009
With nothing better to do, I felt that I might as well update everyone on our current situation. To begin, Krinadon (me) and Faiona decided to run our own guild in Open Beta as an end-game contending guild. Like all other guilds, we had to choose a server to play on. Since Azphel had some top notch Elyos guilds making homes there, we picked Azphel before the zerg came. A few days later, many other Asmodian guilds and guilds such as 'Top Goons' also decided to play on Azphel, making it the most popular server. However, we had already started recruitment and with only a few days before preselection, we weren't going to switch servers. Now, preselection... Faiona and myself sat at the log in screen an hour before it was scheduled to begin in order to rush and claim our names. Within 30 seconds of the servers coming live, we logged on and attempted to create 'Krinadon' and 'Faiona' (btw, we rarely ever see anyone anywhere use our names. I have yet to see a single person in any MMO use the name 'Krinadon' that wasn't me. And only 2 use the name 'Faiona') only to find that 'Krinadon' was already claimed. To this point, nobody will own up to having created the Krinadon and it's currently a Level 1 female Asmodian Mage on Azphel. So right off the bat, great start... I can't even make my character! After dealing with all of that and spending 2 terrible days trying to get my name back with no avail, I finally decided to just create a character with a different name this morning. Two minutes before I created the character, the servers were brought down in preparation for launch. As soon as launch? I go through the process of creating my Asmodian in less than 2 minutes. I go to hit 'Create', and all I receive are, "You have failed to create the character." Why? Because the server became too Asmodian heavy and despite being at the Asmodian character create screen, the game wouldn't allow me to create an Asmodian. Five hours later, Faiona was doing well on her own, despite being a Cleric. She was one of the top 5 highest levels Asmodian side on Azphel. Then a lag spike hit the server and she was disconnected only to return to a 2000+ queue. So now we both sit here in a monster 4 hour queue waiting to get back in. I still don't have an Asmodian and can't even create one even if I do get through the queue. So, currently, we will not be leveling very quickly and are beyond frustrated at whoever thought it'd be hilarious to claim Krinadon and at NCSoft for only creating 12 servers for ~200,000 people. Can't wait for Tuesday! September 20, 2009
To be brief! We have published the 1-50 guides. However, they only go to Level 40 at the moment. As soon as we finish the 40-50 sections, they will be sent out as a free update to anyone who's purchased the '1-50'. We have also added printer friendly versions of the guides. When you download or received your update, there are 2 guides. One regular, one with a 'P'. The 'P' stands for printer-friendly. Lastly, we will be extremely busy during the next week. If you need any help, please allow for some time for a response. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you urgently need us, we will be playing Asmodians on Azphel. On that, good night! September 20, 2009
It has been an extemely busy week for us at KFGuides. You don't even want to know how many hours we've worked. In total, through a broken computer, fixing hundreds of translations, and losing hundreds of data locations - we prevailed! As of now, our Asmodian and Elyos Leveling Guides are now 95% updated to where we want them to be. A lot of work still remains before release, but we knocked a very large chunk out of the way this past week.
Here are the highlights of our updates: These are the updates we're still working on: By the time September 22 comes around, you can expect both guides to be incredibly polished to Level 40. The reason we will be unable to get them ready to 50 is due to many factors, but mainly from setbacks and we're out of time. We do not want to rush things. If you haven't taken a look at our leveling guides, I urge you to at least take a look at our Level 1 through 10 guides. We put an incredible amount of time and effort to make these guides the highest quality possible. The way Aion plays, once you reach the higher levels the game tends to leave you in the dark at times. The goal of our guides is to always keep you in the light. You can view our 1-10s here: Asmodian Leveling Guide (1-10) On a closing note, we look forward to seeing some of our community on Zikel later today. Although dead tired, we will be pushing to be the first Level 30s. So keep an eye out for us! Check back after Open Beta for hopefully a very nice review! September 6, 200

In order to participate in Aion's Open Beta you will need a key code. If you have already received a key code from an earlier Closed Beta or you have already pre-ordered, then simply use that account. If you have yet to obtain a code, you will need to do one of the following: -Pre-Order the game via any venue (Amazon, Gamestop, NCSoft, etc.)
Once you either make your new account or log into your old account, go to your NCSoft Account Management. Next, click on 'Use a Serial Code'. Now enter the code you received either by promotion or by pre-ordering. Click 'Continue'. Once you have consumed your key, return to the Account Management and click on 'Game Accounts'. You should now see Aion listed. Click on Aion. Make sure that there is a green 'Yes!' saying that your password is updated. Now that your account is ready, you need to download the game! Simply refer to the above links to do so. If you have not participated in the Closed Betas and do not have Aion on your computer, download the Full Open Beta Client. If you have played in the Closed Betas and still have that Aion on your computer, download the Closed Beta Update. Once you have downloaded the file, unzip the file and run the setup.exe in order to let it update/install your Aion. Make sure you choose the correct directory if you have already installed Aion. If you haven't, then simply create a new directory. The Patcher should automatically choose the correct folder for you though. Once you've done that, run the NCSoft Launcher. If Aion automatically loads up, just simply close it and return to the launcher. On the left hand side where the games are listed, Right-Click the arrow to the right of Aion. A drop-down menu will appear. Select the 'Check for Updates' option and let the launcher run. After it updates, you should be good to go to access the servers on September 6th! You can also check to make sure you've installed everything correctly by bringing up that drop-down menu again and selecting 'Properties'. Make sure that your version matches the server version. If not, try checking for updates again or reinstalling the patcher. If you have further difficulties, it would be best to contact NCSoft's Support or you can try asking us via our support email.
The KFGuides crew (Krinadon and Faiona) has decided to stay on the Zikel server (Asmodian) for Open Beta. We also will be striving to be the first serverwide to reach the level cap of 30. If you want to check us out or play with us, you know who to search for. See you soon in the world of Atreia! August 27, 2009
Added a New Guide and a New Feature Due to present circumstances, we have just added a new guide, How to Fix Your Latency Lag, and added a new page for our videos. The guide is for reducing latency lag in just about any game, however the current version is best used for reducing lag in World of Warcraft. In the recent status of Aion, however, I tested the program out and it worked just as well. The unplayable lag completely vanished and I was able to play the remaining beta lag-free. The one side-effect is that the one of the programs used causes random errors with the Aion client causing it to crash. There is no real fix around this yet, but Gamepath is working on one. I have also checked out the programs used and they are completely clean. They do not contain anything malicious in anyway. Also, our newly created page contains all of the videos we've made in the past few months. From now on, any video we create will be added to that page for viewing. The main reason for this is that YouTube has become annoyingly strict as of late and continues to disable the audio to our videos due to copyright infringments. I do not agree with their (music industry's) decisions, despite being legally correct, because I feel that the use of music for our type of videos only increases the awareness of sales for that music company. However, it is what it is, thus our page was created for your enjoyment. You can find the page here. August 20, 2009
Review of NA Aion's Last Closed Beta The past weekend was probably the most fun I had playing Aion yet. Which is saying alot considering I've been playing since Chinese Open Beta in April. Although it was sad to see the servers shut down knowing my beloved Chanter would be deleted soon after, it was nice to realize that we're only getting closer to the actual release of the game. Less than a month away now from early access! I filled up my hard drive from having so many Fraps videos. I was able to make 3 decent videos from all of the footage covering some PvE content, solo PvP, and group PvP. In the PvE video, Faiona and I duo King Zugog in Morheim and Avaricious Anduha in the Abyss. In the solo PvP video, I mainly take on Elyos outside Eltnen Fortress where I am greatly outnumbered. In the group PvP video, it's basically just a compiled night of many different PvP battles. The last video shown was recorded by Tricky from CB5. It depicts a night of PvP'ing that his guild had with ours outside Eltnen Fortress. I was unable to Fraps my own video due to horrific lag, but I'm glad someone was able to.
In addition to my videos were GM events. For the most part, a GM simply spawned some very high level elite mobs inside a fortress and basically solo'd it with the nearby NPCs, as anyone who attempted to hit the spawned mobs only hit it for 1 damage. At the end, basically nothing happened but people paying thousands of kinah to heal their souls and recover lost EXP. However, it was nice to see the GMs physically involved with the game, I just hope future events are a little more thought out. Currently, we plan to stay on the Zikel server for Open Beta. However, that is not 100% set in stone. In the meantime, we are now in overdrive attempting to complete our leveing guides and will be incredibly busy for the next 30 days. Once the dates for Open Beta are announced, we will be sure to post more information here for everyone to see. August 20, 2009
Although I should be rejoicing, as we've been beta testing an old version of the game for almost 10 weeks now, and sadly there's still 4 weeks to go. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for this game to be out and these betas to be over with. That aside, I'm sure everyone hopes the performance is much better this time around. Last beta's lag was beyond frustrating (at least for those experiencing it) and hopefully the problem's been fixed. As a precaution, we purchased a new router, replaced our modem, and purchased high quality ethernet cables. If we experience lag again, it definately isn't from our end! Myself and Faiona will once again be on the Zikel server, Asmodian side. We hope some of you will again stop by and chat or play with us sometime during the weekend. If you have any questions, that would also be a great way to reach us. If all things go according as planned, expect to see lots of videos next week! See you in the world of Atreia! August 13, 2009
Closed Beta Lag... er 5 Review I don't know about the rest of the playerbase, but the majority of the Asmodian side of Zikel was bogged down from lag the entire weekend, including the KFGuides crew. It is because of this, we unfortunately have no videos from this past beta. If we were to post the videos, all you would be able to see is consecutive lag spikes every 10 seconds ranging anywhere from 1 second to 30 seconds. That doesn't exactly make for an entertaining video. Below is to give you a general idea of what the entire weekend entailed (for those who were lucky enough to not lag):
It goes without saying, but PvP'ing or doing difficult encounters with that kind of lag is simply impossible (at least to be any good at it). Other than the lag, Closed Beta 5 was lots of fun. It is sad to come to the realization that my beloved Chanter only has 1 weekend left before NCSoft disintegrates him. Lets all hope that the last weekend is lag free! The highlight of the weekend (although I have nothing to show for it) came early Monday as a group of 5 Level 25-30 Asmodians took on an entire Alliance+ of Elyos outside of Eltnen Fortress. In the span of an hour, us 5 Asmodians were able to kill over 100 Elyos with only a handful of deaths. We finally had to call it quits when we became literally outnumbered 6 to 1. Topped with 2 of our 3 healers being lagged out, we had no chance of survival at that point. However, it still was a blast and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to these epic PvP battles to take place this fall. For the next 2 weeks, KFGuides will be working on finishing our Leveling Guides. We hope that the level cap will not be raised so that we can simply concentrate on writing them and not have to worry about publishing another section. Either way, we will give our Closed Beta 6 preview in the next 2 weeks. We look forward to hearing from more of our community on Zikel, so please stop by next beta! August 5, 2009 Starting this Friday, July 31st, Closed Beta 5 will begin for Aion (English client). Unfortunately, NCSoft decided to raise the Level Cap once again, this time to Level 30. This means that even less content gets to actually be tested as most will spend the weekend attempting to reach the cap once again. Fortunately, we have updated our Leveling Guides and they are now complete all the way to Level 30. Those who wish to easily reach Level 30 and still have time to test the game's other content will have no problem doing so if they follow our guides. The estimated time to reach Level 30 from a brand new character is 40 hours. This should be obtainable for most people by Sunday (buy coffee!). However, very few will be starting new characters, so the majority will have no problem reaching 30 by Saturday. This will give you ample time to test the Abyss, PvP, check out the Level 30 raid zone, and much more. You can check out our 1-30 Asmodian Leveling Guide here and the 1-30 Elyos Leveling Guide here. If you have already purchased our 1-20 guide, do not worry, there is an option to only purchase the 20-30 part for the difference in price (meaning you won't have to pay extra). If you wish to play with the KFGuides crew, we have an Asmodian Chanter (Krinadon) and Cleric (Faiona) on the Zikel server. We intend on reach Level 30 by Saturday and then spend the last 2 days slaughtering Elyos (Mwaha!) and testing the Level 30 raid zone, the Fire Temple. We would love to play with anyone from our community, so please join us! We have also added a Terms and Conditions page to our Website. These basically are the rules you agree to by viewing or purchasing any of our guides. Please be sure to read these at some point. Thank you. Lastly, we have created a list at the top of our Home page that shows what we are currently working on and an estimated date of completion. Be sure to check this regularly so you know what's coming up soon. Check back with us after this weekend's Beta for a review of our journey throughout Atreia! July 28, 2009 The past few days have been very fun and exciting. Having missed out on Closed Beta 3, we were ready to dive deep into this content. Since we were far behind on our other server, Israphel, we decided to begin fresh on the new server, Zikel. We also thought this would be a great opportunity to really show how useful our leveling guides are. Two hours into the beta, Krinadon, an Asmodian Chanter, was created. Six hours later, I was the first Asmodian player to reach Level 14. Twenty-two hours after that, I was the first player server-wide to reach Level 25. The total time to 25 was 28 hours. As the first to 25, I had plenty of time to farm gear, mess with the Abyss (which is tons of fun, even by yourself!), and of course... slaughter hordes of Elyos. I was able to Fraps some of my PvP encounters and compiled the best 4 encounters in the video below. I hope you enjoy. I also was able to Fraps one decent encounter, although there were a few including the Level 27 King Zugog Raid Encounter, that turned out decent and complete unlike my other failed attempts.
At the end of the Beta, no other Asmodian character on Zikel had reached Level 24 or 25. I am eagerly awaiting Closed Beta 5 in order to have PvP companions and to take part in Abyss battles. For those who purchased our Leveling Guides up to 25, the rest of the guide (25-30) will be finished within the next 2 weeks and sent to you upon completion. Currently, there are no plans to publish anymore Leveling Guides until we have a 1-50 completed sometime in August/September. July 21, 2009
Are You Prepared For Closed Beta 4? Today is the beginning of Aion's Closed Beta 4! Thousands of players are now waiting eagerly for the servers to come up and begin playing over the course of the weekend. This beta allows players to level up to 25. If you are familiar with Aion, you know what this means. If you are not, I will tell you! This means that players will be granted access into the Abyss for the first time! The Abyss is the most important region in the entire game. In the Abyss, you can battle against your opposing faction or against the Balaur to gain control of fortresses, artifacts, and much more. It truly will be an exciting weekend. In order to help everyone taking part in this weekend's beta, KFGuides has published a Leveling Guide for both the Asmodian and Elyos factions all the way to Level 25. If you haven't used one of our Leveling Guides before, I urge you to check out our free 1-10 guides for both the Asmodian and Elyos factions. If you have used one of our guides before, then don't miss out on our newest addition! In other news, our next big guide, other than the leveling guides, is under construction. This guide will be a gathering guide. Using this guide will grant you incredible detail into Aion's gathering system, the best places to gather every type of item, and detailed information on every gatherable item. If you plan on crafting, then this guide will surely help you tremendously. Be sure to check back soon to see if it's complete. July 17, 2009
With the end of the Third Closed Beta, Aion shifts gears towards the most exciting beta yet in just 10 days; the Asmodian and Elyos 1-25 PvP CB! The KFGuides crew was unable to take much of a big part in this past weekend's beta due to being out of town during the vast majority of it. However, we were able to notice that quite a few people (thousands and thousands) were swarming all areas and all channels though; which is a great sign of success for Aion. However, we were only able to make it to Level 12 before the beta ended, so we'll have a lot of work to do when CB4 starts. But we can't wait! For other news, KFGuides has created its Affiliate Program. If you would be interested in helping us advertise and sell our guides, then please click the 'Join our Affiliate Program!' on the left side, or click here. Follow the directions and you should be good to go! All Affiliates receive 60% of sales generated from their Webpage and all that's required is placing a link on your Webpage! If you would be interested, don't hesitate to check it out. We have also created a Feedback Form under the 'Contact Us' tab. We really would appreciate hearing your feedback on our Website, guides, or anything else. Please check that out so we can improve our service to you. You can click here to view it. The last bit of news is about our next guide. We are currently working and plan on finishing the Asmodian and Elyos Leveling Guides for 1-30 (or 20-30 if you've purchased the 1-20 already). You can expect these guides to be published no later than July 16th. If you are a member, you will be notified when they are published and possibly receive a discount code *wink wink*. July 7, 2009
NCSoft's Official Release Date Set for Aion! You heard it, Aion now has an official release date target of September 22, 2009 for the North American release and September 25, 2009 for the European and Austrailian release. This is great news for everyone who has been waiting for this game's release for such a long time. Less than 3 months remain! Let the countdown begin. Also, do not forget about Closed Beta #3 starting on July 2. The third beta will cover content from Levels 1-20 for the Asmodians and Elyos, with emphasis on the Asmodians. This beta lasts 4 days, ending on July 6. June 25, 2009
Aion's Second Closed Beta Goes Live. KFGuides Asmodian 1-20 Guide Published On Friday, June 19th, Aion's Second Closed Beta began at noon PST. Just like the first, this one went off with a bang. Thousands of players were given the opportunity to play both the Asmodians and Elyos from 1-10 on two different servers. Characters from the first closed beta were not wiped and will remain until the first open beta sometime in late August. As soon as it began, we were off to the races to reach the level cap as fast as possible. Although I placed second on our server by a mere minute, I was able to reach Level 10 in exactly 2 hours. I blame it on the fact that I had no single weapon upgrade to drop the entire time! (Excuses). However, 2 hours is not too shabby if you ask me. I still need to test it on a Mage, as they are the fastest levelers for the early content. If you want to know how you can level to 10 in 2 hours or less, check out our guides. On a similar note, we have published our Asmodian 1-20 leveling guide. You can check it out by clicking here. If you wish to check us (Krinadon and Faiona) out, we are playing Asmodians on the Israphel server. We also have created a guild, KFGuides, and would love for anyone to join us. June 21, 2009

Aion's First North American and European Beta! On Friday, June 5th, Aion's first North American and European beta began at noon PST. Over 6,000 players were given access to one of the year's most highly anticapted new release games. Although Aion was initially released in November of 2008 in Korea and in April of 2009 in China, it is set to release in the early fall of 2009 for NA and Europe. This first beta has received much praise by the 6,000 players able to take part in it. These players were able to explore the world of the Elyos from levels 1 to 20. The next beta is set to begin June 19th and will allow players to explore the world of the Asmodians from levels 1 to 10. In order to be eligable to particpate, you must pre-order Aion and receive your beta key. June 5, 2009 |
