After having the ability to play STO a little more, we've expanded our STO: Strategies and Tips Guide to over 40 pages in length as well as adding a FREE STO: Basic Information and Gameplay Guide. Please check both out if you are currently roaming through space in the STO Universe. As far as the game itself, it's still quite fun to play. The following would be our "review" of the game in its current state: Gameplay: A- All of the above characteristics are pretty self-explanatory other than Character and Storyline Progression. By Character Progression, we are describing how frequently and in-depth you can customize and upgrade your 'character' in the game. STO does a great job allowing consistent upgrades and various paths to progress in to better your character and your ships. By Storyline Progression, we are describing the basic way of progressing from Level 1 to the maximum. STO can sometimes be quite repetitive with things to do, but it's actually quite better than most other MMORPGs. A game that requires you to simply kill thousands of monsters to level would receive an 'F', so a 'B-' is meant to be a pretty decent score. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will continue expanding our guides for Star Trek Online and also top off our Aion Leveling Guides. Keep in touch! February 7, 2010
Star Trek Online: The Next Generation... of MMO's? After Aion's sad tumble, we decided to look for a new MMORPG to play. With not many options, we gave STO's Open Beta a try. To our surprise, the game actually looks quite promising. Being a Star Trek game, it will most definately have a dedicated following. Furthermore, the game is developed by Cryptic Studios, not an Asian company. Meaning, for the most part, us NA/EU players will enjoy the gameplay a lot more! Other than those simple observations, the game itself is very fun. There is a ton of customization available, two interchanging game modes, and of course great graphics and special effects. If you have ever played a sci-fi game in the past that you enjoyed, we definately suggest giving Star Trek Online a try. For those who will be playing STO, please check out our in-depth Strategy Guide. In the guide, we cover all basic aspects of the game for newcomers, details about the game's various equipment, ships, and skills, and in-depth strategies, tips, and tricks to become one of Starfleet's greatest captains! Firstly, we would like to apologize for our lack of attention recently. We have been very swamped with everything we try to do with Aion and we simply don't have enough time to get everything done. That being said, we have, for the most part, finished the Asmodian Leveling Guide up to 50. Lots of updates remain, but the guide should be good enough to help you reach 50 efficiently. In a week or two, we will begin thoroughly working on the Elyos Leveling Guide. The estimated time to complete the Elyos Leveling Guide will be less than 3 weeks from now. As far as Aion, things have been going very well on Azphel. Faiona and myself are currently leading the legion, Nightfall. Nightfall has captured every Asmodian fortress to date and farms all of the Asmodian raid encounters available (unfortuntaely, that's not saying much). In other words, we are definately holding strong against our Elyos and Asmodian counterparts. October 23, 2009
With nothing better to do, I felt that I might as well update everyone on our current situation. To begin, Krinadon (me) and Faiona decided to run our own guild in Open Beta as an end-game contending guild. Like all other guilds, we had to choose a server to play on. Since Azphel had some top notch Elyos guilds making homes there, we picked Azphel before the zerg came. A few days later, many other Asmodian guilds and guilds such as 'Top Goons' also decided to play on Azphel, making it the most popular server. However, we had already started recruitment and with only a few days before preselection, we weren't going to switch servers. Now, preselection... Faiona and myself sat at the log in screen an hour before it was scheduled to begin in order to rush and claim our names. Within 30 seconds of the servers coming live, we logged on and attempted to create 'Krinadon' and 'Faiona' (btw, we rarely ever see anyone anywhere use our names. I have yet to see a single person in any MMO use the name 'Krinadon' that wasn't me. And only 2 use the name 'Faiona') only to find that 'Krinadon' was already claimed. To this point, nobody will own up to having created the Krinadon and it's currently a Level 1 female Asmodian Mage on Azphel. So right off the bat, great start... I can't even make my character! After dealing with all of that and spending 2 terrible days trying to get my name back with no avail, I finally decided to just create a character with a different name this morning. Two minutes before I created the character, the servers were brought down in preparation for launch. As soon as launch? I go through the process of creating my Asmodian in less than 2 minutes. I go to hit 'Create', and all I receive are, "You have failed to create the character." Why? Because the server became too Asmodian heavy and despite being at the Asmodian character create screen, the game wouldn't allow me to create an Asmodian. Five hours later, Faiona was doing well on her own, despite being a Cleric. She was one of the top 5 highest levels Asmodian side on Azphel. Then a lag spike hit the server and she was disconnected only to return to a 2000+ queue. So now we both sit here in a monster 4 hour queue waiting to get back in. I still don't have an Asmodian and can't even create one even if I do get through the queue. So, currently, we will not be leveling very quickly and are beyond frustrated at whoever thought it'd be hilarious to claim Krinadon and at NCSoft for only creating 12 servers for ~200,000 people. Can't wait for Tuesday! September 20, 2009
To be brief! We have published the 1-50 guides. However, they only go to Level 40 at the moment. As soon as we finish the 40-50 sections, they will be sent out as a free update to anyone who's purchased the '1-50'. We have also added printer friendly versions of the guides. When you download or received your update, there are 2 guides. One regular, one with a 'P'. The 'P' stands for printer-friendly. Lastly, we will be extremely busy during the next week. If you need any help, please allow for some time for a response. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you urgently need us, we will be playing Asmodians on Azphel. On that, good night! It has been an extemely busy week for us at KFGuides. You don't even want to know how many hours we've worked. In total, through a broken computer, fixing hundreds of translations, and losing hundreds of data locations - we prevailed! As of now, our Asmodian and Elyos Leveling Guides are now 95% updated to where we want them to be. A lot of work still remains before release, but we knocked a very large chunk out of the way this past week.
Here are the highlights of our updates: These are the updates we're still working on: By the time September 22 comes around, you can expect both guides to be incredibly polished to Level 40. The reason we will be unable to get them ready to 50 is due to many factors, but mainly from setbacks and we're out of time. We do not want to rush things. If you haven't taken a look at our leveling guides, I urge you to at least take a look at our Level 1 through 10 guides. We put an incredible amount of time and effort to make these guides the highest quality possible. The way Aion plays, once you reach the higher levels the game tends to leave you in the dark at times. The goal of our guides is to always keep you in the light. You can view our 1-10s here: Asmodian Leveling Guide (1-10) On a closing note, we look forward to seeing some of our community on Zikel later today. Although dead tired, we will be pushing to be the first Level 30s. So keep an eye out for us! Check back after Open Beta for hopefully a very nice review! September 6, 2009

In order to participate in Aion's Open Beta you will need a key code. If you have already received a key code from an earlier Closed Beta or you have already pre-ordered, then simply use that account. If you have yet to obtain a code, you will need to do one of the following: -Pre-Order the game via any venue (Amazon, Gamestop, NCSoft, etc.)
Once you either make your new account or log into your old account, go to your NCSoft Account Management. Next, click on 'Use a Serial Code'. Now enter the code you received either by promotion or by pre-ordering. Click 'Continue'. Once you have consumed your key, return to the Account Management and click on 'Game Accounts'. You should now see Aion listed. Click on Aion. Make sure that there is a green 'Yes!' saying that your password is updated. Now that your account is ready, you need to download the game! Simply refer to the above links to do so. If you have not participated in the Closed Betas and do not have Aion on your computer, download the Full Open Beta Client. If you have played in the Closed Betas and still have that Aion on your computer, download the Closed Beta Update. Once you have downloaded the file, unzip the file and run the setup.exe in order to let it update/install your Aion. Make sure you choose the correct directory if you have already installed Aion. If you haven't, then simply create a new directory. The Patcher should automatically choose the correct folder for you though. Once you've done that, run the NCSoft Launcher. If Aion automatically loads up, just simply close it and return to the launcher. On the left hand side where the games are listed, Right-Click the arrow to the right of Aion. A drop-down menu will appear. Select the 'Check for Updates' option and let the launcher run. After it updates, you should be good to go to access the servers on September 6th! You can also check to make sure you've installed everything correctly by bringing up that drop-down menu again and selecting 'Properties'. Make sure that your version matches the server version. If not, try checking for updates again or reinstalling the patcher. If you have further difficulties, it would be best to contact NCSoft's Support or you can try asking us via our support email.
The KFGuides crew (Krinadon and Faiona) has decided to stay on the Zikel server (Asmodian) for Open Beta. We also will be striving to be the first serverwide to reach the level cap of 30. If you want to check us out or play with us, you know who to search for. See you soon in the world of Atreia! August 27, 2009
Added a New Guide and a New Feature Due to present circumstances, we have just added a new guide, How to Fix Your Latency Lag, and added a new page for our videos. The guide is for reducing latency lag in just about any game, however the current version is best used for reducing lag in World of Warcraft. In the recent status of Aion, however, I tested the program out and it worked just as well. The unplayable lag completely vanished and I was able to play the remaining beta lag-free. The one side-effect is that the one of the programs used causes random errors with the Aion client causing it to crash. There is no real fix around this yet, but Gamepath is working on one. I have also checked out the programs used and they are completely clean. They do not contain anything malicious in anyway. Also, our newly created page contains all of the videos we've made in the past few months. From now on, any video we create will be added to that page for viewing. The main reason for this is that YouTube has become annoyingly strict as of late and continues to disable the audio to our videos due to copyright infringments. I do not agree with their (music industry's) decisions, despite being legally correct, because I feel that the use of music for our type of videos only increases the awareness of sales for that music company. However, it is what it is, thus our page was created for your enjoyment. You can find the page here. August 20, 2009
Review of NA Aion's Last Closed Beta The past weekend was probably the most fun I had playing Aion yet. Which is saying alot considering I've been playing since Chinese Open Beta in April. Although it was sad to see the servers shut down knowing my beloved Chanter would be deleted soon after, it was nice to realize that we're only getting closer to the actual release of the game. Less than a month away now from early access! I filled up my hard drive from having so many Fraps videos. I was able to make 3 decent videos from all of the footage covering some PvE content, solo PvP, and group PvP. In the PvE video, Faiona and I duo King Zugog in Morheim and Avaricious Anduha in the Abyss. In the solo PvP video, I mainly take on Elyos outside Eltnen Fortress where I am greatly outnumbered. In the group PvP video, it's basically just a compiled night of many different PvP battles. The last video shown was recorded by Tricky from CB5. It depicts a night of PvP'ing that his guild had with ours outside Eltnen Fortress. I was unable to Fraps my own video due to horrific lag, but I'm glad someone was able to. In addition to my videos were GM events. For the most part, a GM simply spawned some very high level elite mobs inside a fortress and basically solo'd it with the nearby NPCs, as anyone who attempted to hit the spawned mobs only hit it for 1 damage. At the end, basically nothing happened but people paying thousands of kinah to heal their souls and recover lost EXP. However, it was nice to see the GMs physically involved with the game, I just hope future events are a little more thought out. Currently, we plan to stay on the Zikel server for Open Beta. However, that is not 100% set in stone. In the meantime, we are now in overdrive attempting to complete our leveing guides and will be incredibly busy for the next 30 days. Once the dates for Open Beta are announced, we will be sure to post more information here for everyone to see. August 20, 2009 |
